What the experts say
Businesses have had to adapt quickly — and are still adapting — to increasing costs, shifting supply chains and new ways of working. On top of these changes, technologies continue to advance, engine maintenance becomes crucial and fuel choice becomes increasingly important.
Shell’s new and innovative diesel formulation Shell FuelSave Diesel, which is the result of extensive development and testing, has been designed to help address a number of key challenges that operators face. Prioritising engine cleanliness for efficient and effective operation, our new deeper cleaning formula takes our fuel technology to the next level.
Key features and benefits
Triple-Action Formula
New Shell FuelSave Diesel tackles three types of deposits. It targets and removes fuel Injector Nozzle Deposits (INDs) and Internal Diesel Injector Deposits (IDIDs). It is also designed to help protect Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems from deposit build-up1.
Value for Money
Designed to promote more efficient combustion, new Shell FuelSave Diesel has been proven by experts to help save up to 3.75% of fuel2. This means lower operating costs, so you can do more with less.
Power Recovery
New Shell FuelSave Diesel cleans more thoroughly than ever before to achieve 83% power recovery3 and help you get more out of your vehicle.
Maintenance Cost Control
By helping to protect fuel injectors and EGR systems from deposit build-up, our new formulation helps to reduce the need for costly replacement of critical engine parts.
Improved engine reliability
Our unique formulation helps to restore the condition of fuel injectors, thereby helping to lower the risk of malfunction of the injection system4. It also promotes reliable engine performance by helping to keep the EGR system clean.
Corrosion Protection
Formulated with corrosion inhibitor, New Shell FuelSave Diesel helps prevent corrosion of key fuel system parts to protect your investment in equipment5.

Injector Nozzle Deposits
At the heart of your engine lies the fuel injection system, reliant on injectors that work hard to produce an effective fuel spray in a very high temperature and high pressure environment.
Over time, deposits can build up in and around the nozzle holes of fuel injectors, impairing fuel spray and leading to inefficient combustion, power loss and increased fuel consumption.
The advanced, deeper cleaning technology in new Shell FuelSave Diesel is designed to get to work from the first tankful to clean fuel injectors and then keep them clean. Through this powerful action, the formulation helps to improve fuel economy and recover power, so you can get the most out of your vehicle investment.

IDIDS
Difficulty starting in cold conditions? Experiencing rough idling or increased engine noise and vibration?
All of these can be symptoms of hidden Internal Diesel Injector Deposits (IDID) which, if left unchecked, can have a serious impact on the performance of the fuel injection system and therefore, on engine reliability and driveability.
Selecting a fuel like new Shell FuelSave Diesel that is designed to target and remove IDIDs, supports healthy engine performance and helps to avoid unplanned and recurring downtime.

EGR Deposits
The Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) deposits system is used by most engine manufacturers to help control nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. When exhaust gas passes through the EGR system, it can cause deposit formation that impacts performance.
The knock-on effects of these EGR deposits can be disastrous, with valves potentially sticking and coolers becoming blocked, risking:
• Reduced vehicle reliability
• Unplanned downtime
• Increased maintenance costs
New Shell FuelSave Diesel therefore contains a combustion improver to help keep the EGR system clean.

The current dynamic market environment is putting the performance of businesses and their assets to the test.
[High angle wide shot of an industrial estate – on a sunny day – split into two parts. Outside the first part is a row of parked freight lorries. We zoom in and fly over the lorries.]
{Voice over}
Your vehicles and equipment are your livelihood, and in order to thrive, you need to look after them so that they remain reliable, even under the harshest conditions
[Cut back to high angle shot and zoom in to the other section before entering one of the buildings to see a row of parked dump trucks]
{Voice over}
Driven by the need to improve operating efficiency and reduce emissions, diesel engines are constantly advancing. And these sophisticated systems require additional protection and care so they can perform at their best; therefore, fuel choice is key.
[Focus on one truck as it fades out leaving a 3D modern engine suspended in midair.]
{Voice over}
There are five essential areas where Shell FuelSave Diesel can help to meet your business challenges. These are: MORE TORQUE, BETTER FUEL ECONOMY, VEHICLE RELIABILITY, CORROSION PROTECTION and FASTER AND CLEANER REFUELLING.
Let’s consider the first 2 of these areas, by heading into the heart of the engine…
[We zoom in to reveal a section of the whole combustion system in midair as it’s operating.]
[Focus on the fuel injector]
[We see a FUEL INJECTOR suspended in midair as it's operating at normal speed.]
{Voice over}
Here we find a critical element: the FUEL INJECTOR, which operates at a level of pressure that was unheard of a few years ago.
[Show close up of a nozzle as it becomes caked in dirt that partially blocks some of the holes.]
{Voice over}
Over time, deposits can build up on the nozzles of fuel injectors, impairing fuel spray and leading to inefficient combustion.
[Zoom out to show an uneven spray pattern.]
[Show a dump truck struggling to drive uphill in a quarry with a full load.]
{Voice over}
This in turn decreases fuel efficiency, and therefore increases fuel consumption and tailpipe CO2 emissions. It can also lead to increased black smoke and reduced vehicle power when you need it most.
[Cut to the dump trucks parked in the building. They are dirty from use.]
{Voice over}
Over time and across a fleet of vehicles, the impact on your business could be significant.
[Show the fuel moving into and out of the fuel injector ]
{Voice over}
The advanced, deep cleaning technology in Shell FuelSave Diesel is designed to get to work from the first tankful to clean fuel injectors and then keep them clean.
[Shot of freight lorry driving in the middle lane of a motorway in the Swiss Alps.]
{Voice over}
Through this powerful action, Shell FuelSave Diesel helps to improve fuel economy and recover lost power, so you can get more out of your vehicle.
[Cut to a wide shot of a Dump truck stranded half way up a hill in a quarry. Fly around the vehicle slowly.]
{Voice over}
The third key performance area is VEHICLE RELIABILITY.
[Zoom in as the vehicle fades leaving the fuel tank suspended in midair. Part of it becomes translucent showing that the light- yellow fuel inside the tank is contaminated with particles of brown organic matter.]
{Voice over}
When bio-components are used, the fuel can degrade and sludge can build up, leading to reduced vehicle reliability and higher operating costs.
[The fuel in the tank changes to a slightly darker colour and the brown organic matter mostly disappears.]
{Voice over}
Shell FuelSave Diesel helps to improve oxidation stability and keep fuel more stable in the presence of bio-components while its dehazing action enables good water separation and easier housekeeping.
[Cut shot of dump truck exiting a cloud of dust as it drives at full speed uphill with a full load.]
{Voice over}
So, Shell FuelSave Diesel is designed for peace of mind, helping to ensure your vehicle’s performance, even in the most challenging environments.
[Zoom in from wide shot of lorry on motorway (from EGR film). Vehicle fades except for the fuel tank (and the pipes feeding in and out of it), half of which becomes translucent as we zoom in to a close-up view of the tank, which is half full of regular diesel.]
{Voice over}
The fourth key performance area is CORROSION PROTECTION.
[Corrosion appears inside parts of the tank and pipes.]
{Voice over}
In the presence of water and oxygen, rust can form on metal parts.
[Cut to a new, empty tank that has a matte surface with no erosion. As the tank fills up with SFSD, a thin translucent/shiny layer appears on the surface.]
{Voice over}
To help prevent this, Shell FuelSave Diesel is formulated for corrosion protection, by forming a protective layer on metal surfaces. This contributes to reduced maintenance and reduced risk of breakdown.
[Zoom out of the fuel tank to reveal a wide shot of the lorry, which is now in a filling station.]
{Voice over}
The fifth key performance area is FASTER AND CLEANER REFUELLING.
[Two fuel pump counters – one branded as shell fuel save diesel, the other as regular diesel – next to each other.]
{Voice over}
Shell FuelSave Diesel’s anti-foam agent reduces refuelling time and the risk of spillage,
[Translucent view of the tank and zoom in showing the regular light yellow fuel falling into the tank from above. It’s foaming a lot and not rising towards the camera
helping you to minimise the time at the pump when your vehicle is not on the road, delivering its cargo.
[The two fuel pump counters are moving at the normal pace until the unbranded one (regular fuel) suddenly stops at 360 litres, while the Shell FuelSave Diesel goes up to 400 litres]
[A full DUMP TRUCK, kissed by the early rays of light from the rising sun, sets off, taking the last of the large pile of rubble.]
{Voice over}
So all in all, you could benefit from:
Lower fuel and operating costs
Better vehicle reliability
[Cut to a fixed shot – camera attached to the side of the lorry – as it’s moving on a now empty motorway. ]
{Voice over}
And reduced down and idle time,
to help boost your business.
[Fade out to Shell logo + sound of Shell]
Disclaimer for Overall Benefits film: For illustrative purposes only. Benefits have been measured using Shell proprietary test methods in a range of HD engines / vehicles (including on-road and off-road technology) and in laboratory tests. Compared to regular diesel without performance additives and with the same level of biocomponent. Actual savings may vary according to vehicle, driving conditions and driving style.

Formulated with active ingredients
New Shell FuelSave Diesel combines five active ingredients:
• A deposit control additive to clean away injector nozzle deposits and internal diesel injector deposits (IDIDs) for a more efficient engine.
• A combustion improver for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) deposit control, enabling reliable engine performance.
• A corrosion inhibitor to protect against fuel system corrosion, helping to reduce maintenance needs and the risk of breakdowns.
• An anti-foam agent to help suppress diesel foaming for easier refuelling and reduced risk of spillage.
• A dehazer for good water separation and easier housekeeping, to help reduce risk of filter plugging and microbial growth during fuel storage.
